Grant Conness and A. Montgomery Costa, Managing Directors and Co-Founders of Global Wealth Management, Publish a New Article Discussing Retirement Calculators

Fort Lauderdale, FL– March 15, 2018  Grant Conness and A. Montgomery Costa, Co-Founders of Global Wealth Management, a Fort Lauderdale-based financial planning firm, recently published an article on their website entitled “Why You Shouldn’t Always Depend on Retirement Calculators.”

Retirement calculators found online are convenient, but are they truly helpful? More importantly perhaps, are they accurate?

Those are two of the questions Costa and Conness discuss in this article. They say, “As with many things that seem too good to be true, this can often be the case with these retirement calculators as well. Sure, they might seem fail-proof and mathematically precise. However, their “accuracy” is also subject to user error.”

They follow up this commentary with some examples of how and when retirement calculators might not always provide the most accurate data. One point they make specifically, is if the wrong data is input into the calculator, wrong data could be the output.

Yet, they add, retirement calculators aren’t always completely bad or worthless. They can be a helpful guide when used properly and when accurate data is input into the calculator.

The article also gives the basics of how these calculators work and provide further information on how it is the assumptions that are critical and not the calculators per se. About this, they state, “People sometimes wonder, ask, or argue about which retirement calculator is best. However, that is usually not the most important issue.  Usually, the critical factor to the accuracy of your retirement estimate is the assumptions used to get this estimate.”
